Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a MECHANICAL, CIVIL OR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (Quality Assurance) CO-OP STUDENT FALL 2023 to join our Voisey's Bay Mine Expansion Project team. This is a fixed term (4 month) position based out of the home office in St. John's, NL. This position offers the possibility to visit the Voisey's bay mining site.
As a Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Voisey's Bay Mine Expansion Project. From assisting with the overall engineering design and reviews to meet the execution schedule for the Voisey's Bay Mine Expansion Project to leadership development, diversity & inclusion and culture, you will have a holistic and enriching experience like no other. You will also gain a deeper understanding of our company and our sustainable approach to mining via exposure to other Vale operations in Canada and our global headquarters in Brazil.
In this position, you will:
- Coordinate and track offsite inspection activities and schedules;
- Review Construction Turnover Package and Vendor Documentation;
- Provide technical support to the Quality team to meet Quality deliverables;
- Provide technical support to the contractors in their respective discipline and assess the quality of the work in the field;
- Provide support to construction to meet turnover requirements;
- Provide technical support for preparation of construction deliverables such as check sheets, drawings, and turnover packages;
- Participate in technical proposal evaluation during procurement process;
- Plan and implement work in a manner that promotes a safe working environment and ensures that adverse environmental effects are minimized;
- Provide support for ensuring engineering codes, specifications, standards, and guidelines are implemented.
About You
- Currently enrolled as a Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering student in a Co-op Program.
- Solid verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products—proficiency in Excel is essential
- Proven time management and organization skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a proven safety record are essential.
